The Lost Ranch Airport is officially open

Many of you may not be aware that we have a real airport right here in Lake Arrowhead. It's called The Lost Ranch Airport and it officially opened today under its new name.
Now that might not be of interest to everyone but there have been quite a few inquiries as to when this airport would open. Some guests are pilots and are interested in landing their small planes right on the mountain. Keep in mind though, this airport is private and restricted and those interested in flying in would need the permission of the owner to use.
There are some great pictures on their website. www.lakearrowheadairport.com All aircraft shown on the landing strip are personal friends of the owner or firegfighters and search and rescue. Only the ranch aircraft are stationed here full time. The airport itself has actually been in use for over 50 years.
Dimensions Are:
Length 3,650'
Width 75'
Shoulders 10' each side
Total Width 95'
Elevation 4,610' msl
Runways 9 & 27
Gradient 0.7% up runway 27
Surface Decomposed Granite
Windsocks 3
Due to the length, this is an excellent runway for most General Aviation aircraft. Furthermore, it provides a prefect emergency landing and air evacuation resource for the mountain communities.

Good Morning to All:
We received a light dusting of snow overnight; about 2 inches, depending on the area. Snow Valley, located 25 minutes further up Hwy 18, received 6 inches and is open for skiing and play. We are expecting the heavier snow to start late this afternoon, around 4 pm or so.
If anyone is thinking of coming up today, remember to bring your chains and get a head start before the snow begins again. The roads are perfectly clear from San Bernardino to Lake Arrowhead. However, Caltrans is requiring chains from Hwy 18 at Lake Arrowhead to Snow Valley for all vehicles except those with 4-wheel drive.
Just a reminder, we have our SNOW DAY SPECIAL. Come on up and enjoy a great day of fun at nearby Snow Valley. Head back to Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa for a cozy evening in our Lobby and sip on complimentary hot apple cider before sitting for a fabulous dinner in BIN189. There is no better feeling than this after a day of fresh air, cool temperatures and great fun in the snow!
Call today to book your SNOW DAY SPECIAL......$119 for an Alpine room and $169 for a Lakeview Room. Available Sunday, 12-09-07 through Thursday, 12-13-07 only. Book for Saturday and pay only $40 additional. Book for Saturday and pay only $40 additional. If planning to have dinner in BIN189 tonight, remember to ask for BIN189 when making your reservations.
Hope to see you tonight!

Hello Everyone,
I want to sincerely apologize for taking this long to update the Blog. It’s all good news though. Business is picking up since the initial shock of the California fires has passed. Folks still need and want to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. There is no finer setting than Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa, set along the shores of Lake Arrowhead and among the beautiful pines and cedars of the San Bernardino Mountains.
I must say the Resort is looking dazzling with its famous ceiling-tall Christmas tree, decorated this year by our very creative elf, Donna Hibbard. Donna’s Mother and Daughter also helped create the charming golden table trees in the entrance corridor and Lobby. I wonder if Santa trained them himself.
Guests will be greeted by the luxurious scent of cedar and pine as they enter the Resort’s Lobby and will no doubt fall in love with the little Gingerbread town prominently centered in the Lobby. The Gingerbread town has its own little choo-choo train that keeps to Santa’s schedule as it runs through the town. I am sure at least one child will find his or her way to a piece of licorice or a gumdrop decoration on the Gingerbread houses, they do every year. Such temptations! Let’s face it, there is nothing like the imagination of a child (or adults) during the Christmas season and I believe Lake Arrowhead is the perfect place to let that imagination come to life.
Speaking of coming to life, Santa and his reindeer made their first appearance at the Village next door this past Saturday and will reappear every weekend until Christmas. Children and adults may have their pictures taken with Santa and his reindeer, too.
The Resort will be hosting a special holiday concert again this year, presented by The Jeran Foundation called Home for the Holidays. This special concert will directly benefit our mountain charities; Rebuilding Mountain Hearts and Lives and Operation Provider. Dale Kristien (Phantom of the Opera) and Bill Hutton (Joseph and the Amazing Technocolor Dreamcoat) will perform and be accompanied by an instrumental ensemble that is sure to move the hearts and minds of all those in attendance. Prior to both concerts, The Carolers, dressed in turn of the century attire, will sing our favorite Christmas songs in the Lobby before the matinee and the grand evening event. Home for the Holidays will be presented at 2 pm and 7 pm on Saturday, December 22. Tickets and information can be obtained by calling Donna at 909-744-3044.
The Resort is setting a very special table for you and your loved ones on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. There will be a spectacular holiday menu served in BIN189, private party feasts served in the Magnum Room and the Stars Room and finally the Grand Holiday Feast in Lakeview Terrace. We even have a complete holiday feast to-go if you should decide to entertain at home. You’ll find all the menus and the complete overview under our webpage, Specials: BIN189 Specials.
That’s probably enough information today but I will be sure to send out an update as we move through the Holidays. We have some spectacular events coming for the New Years as well, so check back soon.
My Best to All,
Peter Henry
